Rural Service Programme (RSP)
Kenyan disaster relief/health and economic development


Dear Friend,

If you feel moved, please print or forward the attached written request for -  a) disaster relief and b) health and economic development support - by the Rural Service Programme (RSP), headquartered in Kaimosi, Western Kenya.  RSP is a joint project of 15 Quaker Yearly Meetings in Kenya.

The Rural Service Programme is a well-known and well-run umbrella organization of humanitarian assistance including microcredit, economic development, water protection, food security, education, health and home economics training.

Jean Smith, a Friend who has returned to the U.S. from her home in Kenya to bring her granddaughter back to New York, has travelled on the east coast in the last few weeks -  has initiated two humanitarian projects under the umbrella of the Rural Service Programme for which she has also asked for funds on various visits to the United States in January and February 2008.  Jean plans to return to her home near Kaimosi, Kenya in the next week to 10 days.

1. Kuwesa Economic Development Program - located near Kaimosi, Western Kenya - provides work for HIV Widows and provides an outlet for sale of their crafts.  Please see attached link for pictures:

2. Kuwesa Mobile Health Program, in conjuction with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kakamega to deliver health care in the field to those in need of health care

The banking system, including wire transfers is disrupted at this moment due to the political unrest and violence.  However, Jean Smith, will be responsible for carrying money, or depositing money in a U.S. account and will give receipt and account to all donors for their gifts to either:

A. RSP - earmarked for disaster relief
B. RSP - earmarked for Kuwesa projects (health and economic development)
C. Kuwesa Projects - are programs overseen by Jean Smith, under the auspices of the RSP Programmes

Donations earmarked to A., B., or C above by check in U.S. Funds may be mailed at any time this year.
